The Company
Helios, LLC was originally founded by our current President Tony Toepfer in Aurora, IL. Tony opened his first tanning salon in 1985 with three beds and quickly realized the need for tanning salon point-of-sale software. There were no tanning salon point-of-sale programs available at the time. Previously working as a computer programmer Tony began to develop his own software to manage his salon. Over the next couple of years Tony developed such a strong solution that he started to sell his software to other salons and in 1988 Helios was founded.

The first three versions of Helios were written entirely by Tony in DOS. Versions four through six were written mainly by Tony and a couple other programmers. As Tony’s salon grew (as large a forty beds in the mid 90s) so did the features of Helios. Helios was the first tanning software program to incorporate features such as Biometric Identification, Email/Smart-Mail Advertising Functionality and EFT’s, just to name a few.

In 2001 Helios was approached by ETS, Inc. to form a partnership whereby Helios,LLC would have the necessary resources to further develop our point-of-sale solution. Today Helios employs over thirty technical staff, which has lead to three significant upgrades to the software. The partnership has also allowed our technical support staff to increase to better serve our clients and increase our support hours.
